Canada's Study Permit Process

A Canadian Study Permit is an official document issued by IRCC authorizing you to study at an approved Designated Learning Institution (DLI).

Unlike a visa, the Study Permit does not grant entry to Canada; you are also issued a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Study Inspire guides you through financial setups, GIC allocations, and biometric requirements.

Student Direct Stream (SDS)

Expedited Processing Options

The SDS is a fast-track program offering accelerated processing speeds for students from eligible South Asian countries (including India and Sri Lanka) who meet specific financial and language parameters.

SDS applications require paying first-year tuition upfront, purchasing a **Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)** from a participating Canadian financial institution, and meeting IELTS/PTE Academic minimums.

What is a GIC?

A Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) is a secure investment account showing IRCC that you hold dedicated living funds. Once you land in Canada, the bank opens your account, releases an initial lump sum, and provides monthly distributions over 12 months to cover living expenses.
