International academic transcripts are typically converted to a US 4.0 GPA scale through credential evaluation agencies — the most widely recognised being WES (World Education Services) and ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators). Many US universities require a formal WES evaluation before making an admission decision. Public universities are state-funded and generally offer lower tuition — however, international students do not qualify for the in-state tuition discount, meaning you will pay out-of-state rates (still typically lower than private schools).
